Some people can be very sensitive to light, therefore a sensitivity check must be executed before the first treatment. If the patient feels any discomfort during the treatment, he/she should inform the operator immediately. Waxing soon before treatments is not recommended, but shaving is fine. In addition, exposure to the sun for some weeks before and after the treatment should be generally avoided.
Thanks to the large spot size and high shooting rate (typically 2 sec.) the treatments are very quick. Thus, a moustache area may take only a couple of minutes. A typical treatment session (back, legs, etc.) takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. Exact duration of treatment is dependent on the area being treated, the thickness of the hair and the patient’s skin type.
As IPL is only effective on actively growing hair follicles, treatments should be spaced far enough apart that follicles in the area have time to begin growing again. If the treatment is given too soon afterward, that particular treatment session will not be as effective. The answer is dependent upon several factors, however for most cases we suggest about 4 to 6 weeks between treatments.
IPL combines the speed of shaving with the lasting results of electrolysis. IPL hair removal is effective on almost any area of the body where smoother, younger, hair-free skin is desired. Larger areas can be treated more easily using IPL than with electrolysis, waxing, laser, or tweezing.
